Online reviews are impacting businesses more and more each year. In today’s culture, people are accustomed to using online rating systems to rank their experiences with companies and brands. If your company has a poor rating on review sites, people might choose to go somewhere else—especially when it comes to healthcare facilities. According to Local Consumer Review Survey, the online rating is the #1 factor used by consumers to judge a business, and only 13% of consumers consider using a business that has a low rating.

Your practice or hospital might be enjoying a myriad of really good reviews. If that’s the case, congratulations! If your score is not where you want it to be, there are a few things you can do to improve your online ratings.

While deleting bad reviews might not be an option, some review sites offer ways to hide them. For example, Vitals allows you to hide up to two bad reviews. However, other sites like Yelp don’t have this option. So what do you do? Sometimes the best defense is a good offense. The easiest way to reach a high online rating is by giving patients something positive to talk about. Encourage patients to review your facility so that you may have a higher influx of entries. The more reviews you get, the higher percentage of good reviews you’ll have.

Here are three simple tips you can do to motivate patients to review your facility:

There are several promotional materials available to display in your reception area and in each exam room. Place them in a visible area so that patients are encouraged to visit the review site and leave a comment.   1. Create a friendly competition among the staff and physicians

Incentivize your office staff to motivate patients to leave reviews and reward the people with most reviews. Set monthly goals and provide a free lunch or give out prizes like gift cards when goals are met.

  1. Boost your review site visits

There are several ways to boost the visits to your review site. The more people checking this page, the more reviews you’ll get. You can choose a positive review to highlight in your newsletter to encourage others to leave reviews as well. You can also add an icon that links to your review sites in your email signature. Or you can share your review sites on your Facebook page.
