On Thursday Facebook announced updates to its News Feed algorithm. Facebook is constantly trying to strike the right balance between updates from friends and businesses, and these new updates aim to show users content that matters most to them.
The first update relaxes the rule that previously prevented users from seeing multiple posts from the same source in a row. According to Forbes, the second update “ensures that the content that is posted by the friends that you care about — which includes photos, videos, links and status updates — will be higher in the News Feed so that you are less likely to miss it. If you enjoy interacting with Facebook Pages that you have ‘liked,’ then you will still see that content.”
While every Facebook page will be impacted differently depending on audience and posting activity, generally your practice can expect post reach and referral traffic to decline if your page has limited interactions. However, it is vital to keep posting content your audience will find meaningful to encourage them to interact with your page. This means keep content fresh, post consistently and use images and videos to connect with your audience.
