Health Content Online: How Do You Know If It’s Reliable?

The Health On the Net Foundation (HON) promotes and guides the deployment of useful and reliable online health information and its appropriate and efficient use. To cope with the unprecedented volume of healthcare information available on the web, the HONcode of conduct offers a multi-stakeholder consensus on standards to protect citizens from misleading health information.

To utilize health content from the web for your social media pages, it must be from a HONcode-certified site. If a site is HONcode-certified, the HONcode icon will be displayed somewhere on the site, usually at the bottom of the page.

HON Tools & Resources

You can use the HONsearch tool to search for health information from only HONcode-certified sites.

You can also install the HONcode toolbar for your browser. It automatically checks the certification of the website being viewed. The HONcode seal will appear in color if the website is certified.
