American Medical News recently posted an article about ways that social media can improve your medical practice. Two reports from large consulting firms proved that engaging in social media benefits doctors, the patients and a squad of social media experts need not apply. The easiest way to learn how to use these networks to your advantage is to participate. Find medical practices that operate social media successfully, and take notes. The four advantages to having social media within your medical practice are the following:
- Discover needed services- This information is invaluable. By monitoring what your patients are most concerned about, your medial practice can offer services more relevant to their needs.
- Improve customer service- Complaints made through social media give the physician the opportunity to respond in a timely manner, and allow others to see that you are willing to remedy problems that the patient may have.
- Gather feedback on medication- There are multiple companies that use online communities to discreetly gather data about topics such as side effects of prescription drugs. Physicians can enter these communities and ask questions or post surveys.
- Compare and improve quality- Social media gives physicians a chance to observe what the competition offers, and gauge how satisfied their patients are.
