Google+ for Doctors, And Why Physicians Should Be Careful

Google recently announced its social networking product, Google+.

Three of the main Google+ features are:

Google+ Circles is the competitor to a Twitter list or Facebook group and allows users to share and consume content with people with like-minded interests

Google+ Stream is similar to Twitter’s feed and Facebook’s news feed

Google Hangouts allows users to group video chat (similar to Skype) and group text

Physicians should use Google+ the same way they use Facebook. Kevin Pho, MD recommends having two main profiles: a personal one to share only with close family and friends, and a professional page that is open to the public.  Physicians should be cautious when posting personal content and pictures. Since this is a Google product, there’s a greater chance that what’s found on Google+ will be indexed in the search engine.
